When you get your RC-3 really dirty and time for a cleanup do alot of you all remove the micarta handles to clean and oil the metal underneath?

Do the handles just unscrew with an allen wrench? From the factory are the screws very tight?

Thanks!

No need to oil under the scales as long as you haven't stripped the coating off. The only thing that might need to be oiled is the edge.

I guess it depends on what kind of mud it is. If it's very fine I imagine it could get under the liners. That would still only require removing the scales and a rinse though. The mud here in Florida probably wouldn't be fine enough be a problem. Nothing a toothbrush and warm water couldn't handle.

Thanks for the reply.Thats what really drew me to ESEE knives. None of them are shelf queens. It is expected to use them.

You ask a question here and the typical response is... "eh...wipe it, dry it, sharpen it, it will be fine". I love that!

I believe that a minimalist approach like that you just mentioned will be just fine for you R.A.T. if you have problems just modify what your doing. You'll learn the process that works the best for you!

For cleaning i just scrub it down with a toothbrush and warm soapy water; then i dry it and wipe it down with a silicone gun cloth.

I was realy impressed at how fast the micarta handles dried on my rc-4.
