Cleaning sap from my Project II

Hey there,

First actual knife I've owned so excuse my ignorance. What is the best substance or way to clean sticky sap from the blade without scraping away the kalgard finished?

Am I being daft?

Do you know what 'daft' means?

Cheers,

Craig.

Try using vegtable oil, corn oil or similar kitchen oils. It takes the adhesive off of glass from stickers. I'm not sure if it will work, but it's worth a try. If that doesn't do it for you, a product called Oops and another called Goo Gone will do the trick. After you clean it with these products, wipe the blade with WD-40.

Any white gas or paint thinner will remove the sap.

It won't harm the Kalgard at all.

I've never used it to remove sap but I stand by ""Nevr-Dull" Magic Wadding" (correct spelling) as a removal agent. It really gets various metals clean and polishes the heck out of them to boot.

Elegant solutions, all. I cut through a lot of vegetation, and routinely clean my knives with alcohol. You can get alcohol pads at your pharmacy and bring a few along to clean your knives in the field. The alcohol pads are also handy if you get scratched by thorns or bitten by mosquitos. The alcohol will eliminate the itches or minor infections you might otherwise get.

Craig,

Let me see if I've understood you correctly.........you want to know if I, a citizen of the USA, the country that elected Klinton for two terms, understand "daft"??????

Craig do you mean daft as in Daffy Duck ? Yes daft is also an american word. Alchohol works , at least when the sap is fresh.[ don't use whiskey that would be a waste.] Various solvents will work.

Cheers for your help,

glad some of you know what 'daft' means. I thought it was a u.k specific word. Project II is restored to its former glory due to your help. Again, many thanks.

Craig.

Scott, thanks for the help, oils wouldn't shift it, surgical spirit solved the problem. Thanks man.
I'm glad you restored your Project II. Sorry, I didn't notice you were from the UK. I wasn't sure if you had the products I mentioned in your country after I posted, but any product with minerial spirits in it should work. The oil was a suggestion from my wife who over the years has used it to remove alot of stickys from everything, furniture, windows and gum out of the kids hair :D By the way, cool knife I have one too ;)

Alcohol works even when the sap is dried and forgotten for a few days.

Using whiskey seems wasteful, but if you do you could lick the blade clean.
