A poster on another forum found that typical crockstick sharpeners load up with metal particles quickly. He found most scouring powder didn't do a good job cleaning. However he found that 'CAMEO aluminum and stainless steel cleaner works very well.
Ha anyone else found this ?

You will probably have more luck in the Maintenance, Tinkering, and Embellishment section of the forum to get more answers. That said :) I use Barkeepers Friend and a scouring pad. It makes my ceramic sticks look brand new every time.

Barkeepers friend is what you generally get recommend on MT&E part of the forum, pair that up with a brush or some type of pad and it should do the trick. I haven't done this though but it's the generic answer you get there.

I cheat, I use an ultrasonic cleaner on my diamond stones and I haven't had a problem with my silicon carbide or india stones. Don't own any ceramic stones either so I can't comment on that.

A buddy used a metal brush to clean some crocsticks
I have not tried that Cameo cleaner, but The suggestion of Bar Keeper's Friend does work really well. It's a good product.

Bar Keeper's Friend with a Scotch-Brite pad works great for me on ceramic stones & rods.

AJAX and a Scotch-Brite works great on my SharpMaker rods, but don't work even near as well on my 220/400 EPA stones.

Any ideas? EP owners, what do you guys use to clean the stones?

use a white art eraser............it's so fast and brings back ceramic after it's loaded.......it works better than most things to pick up the smallest debris from ceramic/diamond sharpeners but I don't use them on anything else.

I just put my Spyderco ceramic benchstone in a sink of warm water & Simple Green to soak for a while.

Sounds odd..but I use hand sanitizer on my Arkansas stones and sharpmaker grey and white rods. Cuts through the buildup reasonably well. Don't need much effort either...

I use dishwasher and car shampoo to my spyderco benchstone...funny the uf stone is the easiest to clean...fine stone is the worst

Don't know how it would work on ceramic but BreakFree CLP lifts the swarf off my DMT diamond hones.

Another user of barkeepers friend for my Spyderco ceramic rods. Something else I do which can prolong how long you can use them in between cleanings though is I will get a normal pencil eraser and after each use run that up and down the stones. It will pick up a lot of the surface metal shavings.
