Cleaning sharpmaker

Hi,

I recently obtained a big 'ole tub of powered abrasive cleanser to clean my sharpmaker (asked the better half to purchase it for me).

However, the variety she's chosen happens to come with a lemony scent.

While I didn't imagine this would have any bearing on the sharpmaker I thought I'd better check. Also, someone has mentioned that since it apparently contains bleach it will possibly damage the stones ?

Could anyone shed any light on my dilemma?

Cheers

Take it back & get your money back :) A lot of people don't like using the sharpmaker in the field because they think they have to scrub the hones to clean 'em.
Not so. Just buy a normal pencil eraser. A large one is easy to hang onto. Then just ERASE the metal from the hones. Very little mess & it's faster than scrubbing.
Ceramics don't work well if they're loaded up with metal, so keep your eraser handy.

I just swiped an eraser from one of my kids backpack! Great idea for field cleaning. At home I use Comet, Ajax, whatever to and a green scrub pad to clean the hones. On the diamond rods I use a toothbrush(cant seem to find the fingerbrush I bought for this)to scrub. I do dry the diamond thoroughly and blowdry the inside to prevent a chance of rust.

Ah cool ok, cheers.

I was just going on the video with Sal scrubing away at the stones :D

I've got an old model railway track cleaner (which is basically quite an abrasive eraser) that should do the job for field cleaning, but thought I'd stick to the ajax around the house :)

Cheers
