Cleaning Spyderco Sharpmaker

I've been trying to clean it with Lemon-Fresh Comet w/bleach.

The medium-grit stones seem to load up way too fast, which makes me think I'm not getting them completely clean to start with.

Any suggestions? Is there anything coarser available for the sharpmaker? Back-beveling to 30 degrees takes me FOREVER!

Mike

Rust erasers also work fine for my Sharpmaker. Give them a try.

You don't say what you are using with the Comet. I clean mine with a green Scotch-Brite pad and an abrasive cleaner (Soft Scrub, Comet, etc). It works very well for me.

I'm with Paul, "green Scotch-Brite pad and Soft Scrub" works just fine.
I would like to see rods available that were "coarser" than the "grey" and also rods that were "finer" than the "white" ones. For me that would make a great system even better, because there are times that the "grey" rods just don't remove enough steel and other times when I'd like to take the edge past what the "white" rods allow. I'm not complaining just wishing.

I use one of those "Rust Erasers" from AG Russell and it works great. Do it outside though, cuz like a real eraser, there are little bits that rub off and make a mess (and p.o. your spouse). Works wonders.

There has been talk of more diamond sleeves like in the olden days, but haven't seen them yet. Would love to have some though!!

I clean mine with "SoftScrub". It was available as CR recommends it for cleaning the Sebenza titanium handles.
Does a fine job, put a little on and rub it in with my fingers and thumb

Dang, just realized that there were two questions. Anyways..., besides the mentioned diamond sleeves you can also use the smaller DMT stones (the ones they use in their guided systems) and lay them on the flat sides of the sharpmaker's stones. I use rubber bands to keep them in place, and it works so far. I think I picked this up from Joe Talmadge.

The Scotch-Brite and Comet treatment mentioned above works great for me.

I recall seeing on the Syderco forum that diamond coated stones are in the works. This was a recent post by Sal, so I believe that this will be a reality before long. It'll make it much faster to re-profile.

Just found something that works great and cleans my hands at the same time. GoJo with pumice.
