Cleaning stainless steel barbecue panels

We just got one of those massive stainless steel barbecue/rotisserie/cooker combinations. The stainless steel panels attract fingerprints and smudges like a nervous DeLorean! What kind of "food-safe" spray should I use to clean these panels? (The owner's manual advises to use a stainless steel cleaner - "start with the mildest and work up" - but I would think there's some home-made spray I can use before stepping up to an industrial cleaner?) This is a brand new unit with no deep stains yet, just annoying fingerprints!

0000 steel wool and olive oil should get rid of the stubborn stains and marks, just go with the "grain" and easy on the elbow grease. For just shining it up soapy water should do fine, that is what I use on my stainless fridge.

For non-chemical cleaning, it's hard to beat a simple paste of vinegar and flour. You can add salt or a little baking soda if you want a little more abrasive paste.

For chemical cleaning, it's very hard to beat Barkeeper's Friend.

Simple Green - of course! I use that on my cars and usually buy it by the gallon. Thanks also for the other suggestions - but this is a brand new unit so there's no real need yet for a more abrasive cleaning.

I had a service technician (glass washer) tell me that he uses WD40 on the brushed stainless panels on his glass washers.
