One of the guys at work found a knife while digging on a work site. He knows that I tinker with with knives so he gave it to me to see if I could get it working. It's a USA made Gerber automatic, but it did not work when I got it, the blade would come out about 1/2 way and stop, and the tip of the blade was buggered beyond repair. So I brought it home took it apart, soaked the parts in some Ed's Red, cleaned up the rust on the springs, and polished the bearing surfaces and screw heads, I did what I could with the tip, mostly sanding out the grind marks ans tweaking the angle. It's as ugly as sin but it should work. The thing now opens with a nice clunk, and slicker than cat snot. I contemplated baking on some flat black epoxy paint but figure that would just be putting lipstick on a pig.

Almost looks like an old benchmade that I saw in Jimmy Diresta's collection video

Looks like you did a pretty nice job to me--if I wanted to blacken up the scales on it, I would try some Gun Blue coating on them and see if that worked at all. I think there's actually a product called Gun Black, that might be what I tried.

I think it turned out great! It would look even better if the edge bevels were polished up - kind of like how a mirror bevel on a well patina'd knife looks good, it would offset the heavy wear and create a nice contrast.
