Cleaning up a knife...

Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish will work well too. Great stuff. I rub it on the blade and bolsters with a q-tip for a minute, then wipe off with a rag. I've brought many knives back to life with Mothers. You can probably find it a Wal-mart or a car parts store like Autozone.

ok, thanks guys!

Remove any rust, and give it a good polish to brighten it up. I like Autosol, but others mentioned here will work too.

Don't go overboard with cleaning. Remember all those stains, scratches, and scars were put there by your Grandfather.

Best thing for the sheath is saddle soap. If you don't have that wipe it down with a damp cloth and rub in some beeswax. Use some mild detergent and a toothbrush if you have to.

I would use light mineral oil and a very soft cloth on the blade. A picture of your knife would be good in order to assess the condition.

Best regards

Robin

I use No.7 white polishing compound. Also white Jewelers rouge for polishing & stropping.

You are a lucky grandson. Mine will be lucky someday if my son doesn't just sell off some of the stuff that my grand dad and dad have handed down to me.
