Cleaning up a kukri

I have a Cold Steel Gurhkra Kukri. It's made out of their Carbon V steel and does not have a black epoxy coating. Anyway,

I chopped down a rose bush with it (and it had super performance) and it got dirty and stuff. I unforenatly neglected it and the dirt caked up and hardned and parts of the blade have very minor rust. (Yes I should be dragged out into the street and shot for such horrible abuse to a knife. I hang my head down in shame.)

My question is, what is the best way of cleaning the knife up without scratching it too bad. How do I leave a good finish on it after I'm done? Do I need to buff it? Please help! Thanks!

WD40 will work but there is a metal polish called Flitz that will clean it. Get it in paste form and put it on a flannel cloth and buff until the rust and dirt and everything else come off. Do not press to hard because Flitz is an abbrasive substance but if you dont press to hard while buffing it wont be a problem. You wont be able to tell at all but the scrathes definetly wont be as big as the ones you get from cutting with it. You probably already have WD40 so try that but if you dont get the results you wont try flitz. It hasnt failed for me yet when I need to clean a real dirty blade.

Flitz is the stuff. Damned cheap too :)

hey, how well did your Ghurka kukri chop?

That cold steel kukri is simply an amazing chopper! It can cut a branch 3/4 inches thick in one swing. Amazing. And after cutting down about 4 huge rose bushes with it, it can still cleanly cut paper.

I dont believe anybody who says cold steel sucks. Their carbon V steel is the shiznat!

WD40 dosent work. So flitz on a cloth, and some time should take care of all the hardented dirt and rust???

And where can I buy Flitz? I havnet seen it before.

Thanks!!!

Most hardware stores carry Flitz, and it is good stuff. A small tube will go a long way.

The reason for the WD40 suggestion was that I had understood that it was mainly caked with dirt. (Trying to get the dirt off without scratching the blade) I use Flitz on my shotguns and rifles. It is good stuff.

If it is rusted badly, there is not a metal polish made that will get it out unless you consider black buffing compound and a sisal wheel a polish.

If the dirt is caked on thick try dish soap and warm water with a soft bristled brush,

then do the Flitz:D

(this works on my blades after my wife borrows them:eek:  )

"I didn't nick them to bad this time"
