I was wondering if anyone could give me a recomendation on what wheels are good for re-finishing or creating a mirror polish? Also what wheels (brands, grits, etc.) are good for sharpening axes and other difficult blades?

As far as polishing, I would used a bench grinder and buffing wheel from sears with jewelers rouge, and water mixed together. i fyou want a wheel for sharpeneing I would find a water cooled bench grinder with a fine wheel. seriously though I used a ceramic lansky crock stick for difficult blades. you use to be able to buy water cooled grinders, not sure where you can get one these days. Its probably been 10 yrs since Ive looked at one.

hope this helps some!!! :)

Thank you for your help. I used to have a Lansy clamp and rod type system, but I found that my knives would slip out of the clamp far too often ( falling invarioubly point first LOL ), so I was thinking of a wheel. However, after reading a few other threads, I think I may go with another style system.

I'm really pretty new to collecting finer blades, and am still trying to learn how to care for them.

Thanks again

BE CAREFUL USING THE LANSKY SYSTEM! I wasn't paying much attention one day and a Muela Bowie knife slipped out of the bracket and landed point first in my foot. I had to reach down and pull the bloody thing outta my foot. I ended up with four stitches and HUGE pain for a couple of weeks afterward.
