Ok, I’m not quite ready to make the jump to a nice 2x72” grinder with the smaller spindles so I’m hoping for some beginner advice.

what’s the best way to clean up the tighter areas/curves after you cut out a blank? I’ve got some files but I’m wondering if maybe a dremel could be a faster but relatively economical option. if so, will the little drum sander bits do the job? Thanks!

Yes or a spindle sander or a flap wheel on your drill press.

More then 90 % can be done on flat platen on grinder . I used Dremel before i make my horizontal grinder .Now I make this for really small radius .........

I can get all but the tightest spots with the edge of my contact wheel. Only a little bit is left for files.
I just got a carbide file guide and was loving how easy it is to square up the ricasso, but I need to be more careful as I glazed over one of my favorite files before noticing.

If you make small radius on edges on TC would help .I did it on mine , no sharp edge where the teeth of the file can catch

Yes, the little drum sanders on a Dremel do very well. I use an 80 grit for that and it does a great job. I just got a little 1x30 Belt Sander and am loving it. I'm just practicing with it for now, but I will try really cleaning up the blank on knife #2.

Lots of great options! Thanks! Yes I’m getting better with the flat on my grinder. I’ve got a bucktool 2x42 with a wheel on the other side. It’s not great but so far it’s doing what I need

A piece of aluminum or steel rod with a slot in the middle, cordless drill and quality sand paper.
