I put some camilla oil on a damascus bowie and put wax paper around it for storage. I put camilla oil on all my knives, mostly carbon steel, and have for years. But this time I got a terrible fright the blade had splotches of a yellow hew on it I suppose from the oil coagulating. I went at it with Bar Keeper's Friend a number of times being careful to remove the cleaner quickly with running water. The blade for the most part is looking much better but I am seeing a faint discoloration. Is there something else I can do to get the blade back to it's original glory? It's a random pattern. Thank you in advance!

I've had Damascus blades discolor if the etch-ant had not been neutralized completely and then the blade moved to storage. I've gotten intonthe habit of packing Damascus in calcium carbonate for a day and then coating in Frog Lube. The oil you are using may be perfect for knife storage but I've read two different studies on waxes and oils used to coat steels. The Frog Lube came out on top over 40 other entries. They left steel outside in the weather for a month and the piece coated with this product had not a single spot of rust or discoloration. I got mine at Amazon in paste form.

Regards, Fred

I second this. Frog Lube is tops.

I followed the lead by Fred many moons ago, and I am now among the Frog Lube fans, I have a couple metal tools that stay outside, and since I went to frog lube paste wax--or whatever the paste version is called, I haven't had any rust on that gear. On Damascus that has taken a 'tint' on, I go at it with high speed rubout with 0000 steel wool, and then cover up with Frog Lube, works well for me!
