Cleaning Up New Camp With A New BK7

Wanted to clean up my new camp site a little today. It is going to be a place where I can get back to the earth a bit and do a little "Knife R&D". So while I had a couple blades heat treating in the shop I dashed out to the woods with my new BK7 and a heavy duty rake. I was ready to start the firepit today. After raking all the leaves and rocks out of the way the BK7 made quick work of about 10 small trees up to 1 1/2" diameter and one larger tree. Most of them took 1 easy chop. I hit a rock next to a tree, it made a spark and I thought the edge was chipped but there wasn't even a scratch on the edge. I used the 7 to pry the bark loose of the ridgepole the knives are stuck in. It didn't even work up a sweat. Look it's as tall as a tree.

That was it for today. The 7 handled itself very well out there. Can't wait to go back out and cut some wood up for a fire.

BK-7 is a good all arounder. Fills the same niche as the traditional USMC combat knife but is so much more.

nice. aside from the tactool, the bk-7 is the only production becker i have yet to own. i'm tempted!

The 7 will be my next knife. My birthday is coming up so i better be nice to the wife. Lol:D

I was totally surprized at how it went through everything like a hot knife through butter. That cliche really does fit appropriately. It fit the hand well and swung like a champ. Once I get things going out there I'll be cutting down a bunch of 1-2" trees to clear and use those for the lean-to. I ordered a dedicated camera for knife use today so more pics will come.

Glad you had fun! I'm going to make a campsite next spring where there's a little piece of land jutting into the creek near my house. My brothers and I used to camp there when I was little under the stars but now its all grown over. I'm torn between the BK7 and BK9, but I think the 9 is better for me since I already have a 2.

Yeah I did the choil job first thing. Only mod so far. Going to leave it be for now and see what it needs as I go. Plans have been hatching for new handles. Brown micarta or black ash burl, but I'll probably stick with the micarta so I won't feel guilty about the beatings.

Good lookin' blades. Nice handles on the 11 - What kind of wood ?

Did someone say BK 7 at the campsite ? :D

7 makes a great camp knife.

Been working on my site since last spring (One of Ethan's shelter building contests started it all)

Couple pics of the place. Great little getaway at the back of our property. Not one nail or screw. Everything is tied.

This was the orig contest shelter - raised bed lean too. It's held up pretty good. Only a second layer of roofing so far.

Here's what it looked like last spring for the contest

Relatives were visiting for the holidays. We took my grandson down to the camp in a "Redneck Stroller" (lol)
Wheelbarrow with a car seat and packed with "supplies" ;)

My First Becker was a BK-7 (in 2003, still under Camilius).......immediatly fell in love with it. I have used it on 2 deployments to Iraq and numerous outdoor outings. Lately, it's been a safe queen as I have been using a BK-2 more and more. Lately, I have been usign the 2 more and more.....mainly cause its more acceptable in the publics eye.

Thanks ya'll.

It's been a great place for some quick woods time, work on some skills,
have a couple cold ones and let the dogs run wild too. :D

Nice camp Cobra. That's what I have in mind..my own little getaway. It will be a work in progress for quite a while I reckon. The wood on my BK11 was some burl wood a guy gave me. It is very swirly and feels great on the knife.
