So I just wanted to know how the beckerheads clean their knives. to be honest , im pretty inexperienced with cleaning knives in general. But really, I really just need to know how to remove scuffs, small marks, smudges etc. that are leftover from general camp tasks. My 7 is pretty dirty from a recent camping trip and I just want to clean it up a little. Thanks!

1. go to the sink and grab a scrubbing sponge.

2. apply dishwashing liquid to said sponge, start running the water and wet the sponge.

3. wet blade thoroughly under said water.

4. scrub blade with sponge to a lather.

5. rinse.

6. if sap or anything else is still present on blade, repeat steps 4 & 5.

7. dry the knife with clean towel and secure in sheath.

Soap and water works well, for really sticky sap and goo, I use mineral spirits. I usually take the handle scales off and clean the entire knife. The final touch is spraying it with Rem Oil, letting is sit for a couple minutes, then rub it down, and reassemble.

I just wash my pecker when I take a shower. I find that if I pay to much attention to cleaning it, it affects the Rockwell number.....

Wait you said BECKER.... My bad.

Carry on..

Beckers and peckers can both be cleaned the same way.....lots of soap and WARM water (not cold) and rub it back and forth. A few minutes of that and your Becker or pecker should be good to go.

Thorny wins this thread!

The Rockwell bit almost had me spew coffee out my nose.

Clean it?
-Most I do is wipe it on my pant leg, and sheath it.
-If it gets a little rust on it, I take a S.O.S. pad to it, then wipe it on my pant leg, put a little oil on it and sheath it.
-This is pretty much SOP on all my Beckers except my BK-11 with a polished blade. For that I use fine grit sandpaper, wipe it on my pant leg, then sheath it.

Are you picking up the pattern here?

i use my 11 to cut my apple and peel my orange in the morning. i use some water and a paper towel to wipe the crud off it, then a light coat of olive oil. i've heard evoo will turn rancid and stink after a while, but i haven't had any issues so far. also, no rust.

my 9 and 3 just get dish soap and a green scrubby pad, but they still have most of their coating. the 11 is stripped.

For tree sap I have found that IPA (isopropyl alcohol, not the beer!) works well, and it less nasty than mineral spirits.
