Hi all. I made a mistake: I took my Victorinox to the beach. Now there's sand in the joints! AAARRRGH...

How do I get it out? I can't loosen up the joint like with the Benchmade...What do I do?

You will probably get several different answers to this question, but this is what I would do (have done). Flush the knife out with running water to get a lot of the grit out. Sometimes a toothpick, cotton swab, modified chopstick will help get a little more out. Then I would apply a healthy dose of White Lightning knife lube to each blades pivot point and open and close them several times. For whatever reason this stuff tends to migrate crud out of the knife as you do so. White Lightning is not a great lube for all knives, but it works great on SAKs.

Good luck,
Paul

Just dont use any really harsh solvents such as carb cleaner or gunscrubber. Unlike G10 or Micarta the plastic used to make SAK scales usually doesnt like those too much

Once you've rinsed the knife with hot water, you might try using a high-pressure air hose to blow out the remaining dust and dirt. A lot of times gas stations will have 'em. Or you could buy a can of pressurized air and use that. You can get 'em in office supply stores (it's used to clean computer keyboards).

The best way I've found to clean the grit out without stripping the knife down is with a waterpic. Turn it up to max. pressure and open & close the blade as you flush out the grit. I hope this helps!!!

Use a high power shower head on the highest heat setting for a couple of mins. Then work the action and do it again. Repeat a couple of times and let dry. Then use WD-40 and flush it out. Repeat with the hot water shower and hour later. Let dry over night. It aught to be much better now

Apply a good oil or grease when smooth.

I had the same happen with my SAK and LM Super Tool. Worked a treat. Good luck!
