I'd like to take a minute to commend Chris and the team on being committed to producing knives with very little markings on them. The cleanliness of design that defines the Sebenza is one of the major reasons that I love it so much. The fact that we are so agitated about the addition of the "Idaho Made" stamp just shows how much we appreciate this. I confess, that I too much prefer the Sebenzas without Idaho Made, but at least its subtle. Think of how much worse it could be. Also, CRK is the only production or mid-tech knife company that I can think of that doesn't put anything on the blade.

I have been looking at Klotzli knives, as I like their designs and I have heard that they rival CRK for fit and finish. But I will not buy one simply because they take their beautiful, highly engineered creations, and slap a magazine article's worth of print on them:

Ahhh...That's better:

Yep, I hate when the blade is turned into a billboard. CRK has caught a lot of flak for the Made in Idaho stamp, but I'll take that over writing on the blade any day of the week.

Much of what first drew me into Chris Reeves knives were the clean elegant lines and overall simplistic style. I too wish they would have left off the Idaho made stamp on the back, but it also was done in a way that doesn’t draw to much away from the lines of the knife. The simple CR on the front is enough for me lol.

Any writing on the blade detracts from its profile; add the manufacturer's name, logo, designer's name, their logo, the type of steel the blade is made of, the country it was made in, the name of the knife; and all that's missing is a screenshot of the Manufacturer's home page. Leaving me to wonder, "sheesh, I wish I knew what the actual blade looked like".

I love my other knives that have an excessive amount of writing on the blade, but I'd love them even more if they had none like my CRK's.

I will be the bad guy. I love blade and tang stamps! Dunno why just do, it might have to do with my huge collections of traditional knives and the fact that "stamps" used to be all the rage. All that being said the CRK patterns look good.

I notice that you pictured a sebenza without the hideous Idaho Made stamp on the back :thumbup:

I have to agree with you that too much unnecessary text on a knife generally cheapens it nearly as much as the wrong kind of stamp.

I agree, the literature that comes with the knife tells me all I need to know. I don't need reminded of it every time I use the knife.

Good point. Never thought about it, but it is one of the many things that I really like about the Sebenza. Just plain clean & simple.

I love the lack of advertising on the blade. Some pull it off by making it as indiscreet as possible, but I love the complete lack of it on my CRK's.

you all put too much stock in the Idaho made stamp, cant even notice it without examining it, besides, it's a beautiful state. :D

As Antoine de Saint-Exupéry said so wisely in Wind, Sand and Stars: 'In anything at all, perfection is finally attained not when there is no longer anything to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away.'

That's exactly what the Sebenza is all about. Well, at least until the introduction of 'Idaho made'. But let's try to ignore that one.

Well, I do agree. Mostly. I wouldn't mind a discreet steel marking, nothing gaudy. Maybe even laser etched. But I love the simplicity also. Guess it makes sense that I like my cars with no stripes lol

You know what, i like the idaho made stamp but i never thought of it like that. I hate words on my cars. I leave the manufacturers emblem on there and get rid of any model names or numbers as well as dealership names.names.

Haha. Yep. I even removed the stripes from my gt/cs mustang. I had ordered a gt500 and ordered it sans stripes. I've told dealers not to put the stickers and walked away from deal because they drilled the bumpers for their plates. I HATE vinyl stripes. There are a couple cars where stripes Re necessary (65 cobras and replicas et al) but for a street car, I like them like I like my knives. Clean. Manufacturer emblem is ok. 5.0 on the fender. That's enough for me.

That's a deal breaker for me. Bought a Jeep that was being transferred from another Dealer in-State; I told the Sales Manger not to bother if the other Dealer already rocket-propelled a drill through the front facia for their Dealer plate. Then I told him to check it upon arrival and just keep it for himself if it's been drilled, otherwise, ensure that you keep your own bafoons away from it until I get there.

I was pleased upon arrival. But, I asked the Sales Manager if he wanted to negotiate an advertisement contract with me. When he said, no; I said good, me either, now get your Dealer logo license plate frame off my new Jeep.:barf:

Ha! I busted a gut on that one:thumbup::thumbup::D

Yeah, I got a good laugh too...I don't go that far, but I do take off all their crap as soon as I get it home.

I suppose I'm not that much of a purist. I have no problem with "Made in Idaho" on my Sebenza. Neither do I disagree with Spyderco when they put their Colorado logo way up on the shoulder. Always happy to have some things made in America.
