Hello all,

I am currently working on a project to transform my Craftsman Camp Axe into something I can use for woodworking. I understand this is not the best tool for the job, but I am on a tight budget and buying something new is a little out of the question. Also, I am enjoying the learning experience :)

Anyway, I am having an issue trying to take off the clear coating on the head. It appears to be some kind of...plastic? I have tried sanding, and then scraping it off with a knife. However, this method has proved to be both laborious and ineffective. I am wondering if acetone might do the job, but I don't want to risk damaging the head. What do you guys think? Have any of you had success with chemical means?

It's probably clear laquer, any decent paint stripper will work, if you have acetone on hand that might just do the job too.
