Clear kydex

Whoa, that's some interesting material, thanks for sharing.
Hope you don't mind, I posted your link over on Shop Talk.
Those fellas are always interested in new stuff.

What is PETG?
PETG stands for polyethyleneterephthalateglycolate. This is a polymer of the variety which used to be known as terylene, but is now known as polyesters - PET. PETG is a plastic which is used in fizzy drinks bottles, which are stronger plastics and more expensive than those used in 'still' drinks bottles. Making these bottles is a two-stage process, initially the plastic is stretched into a test tube-like shape and then the plastic is heated and blown into the bottle shape. This stretches the plastic both longways and crossways, which gives it greater strength and rigidity. The cheaper bottles for still drinks are made in a one-stage process.

PET has two main properties; strength and gas permeability - CO2 can't get out but O2 can get in. Unfortunately, in the case of a drinks container, this is not an ideal situation, so a lining of another polymer is made inside the PET container. This is where the G for glycolate comes in as this is used as a lining, being more transparent and making the overall bottle stronger. New PETs are still being developed, without the need for a lining polymer, but PETG is the best available at the moment.

There are also many other thermoplastics available other than Kydex...

I can't quite remember the exact story of how the knife community got wrapped up in Kydex, rather than the others. I'll research it a bit more and see what I can find (or maybe someone else can post it).

In the meantime, here's something to read on vaccuum-forming...
(vs. injection-molding)

http://www.formedplastics.com/pressure.html

(from the link above)

Formed Plastics' numerous pressure/vacuum forming machines are capable of forming a wide variety of shapes and sizes up to maximum dimensions of 48"x 96".

Do you think we could get a clone copy of BruiseLeee this way?
(Han-Solo style...:D )

:D:D

for bears I would go Federal or special purpose. Heaviest I could find. They've been using slugs against bears for over a 100 years. Must be a reason. I choose Federal because they are usually in the top if not the leader in velocity per weight.
:D

Sent the link to a friend who trains law enforcement recruits, qualifies them, etc. Here's his response:

"This is an interesting idea, but I'm not sure if it answers any valid
question; The point of
a decent concealment holster is that it comfortably, accessibly conceals
the GUN.
This stuffs shininess makes me wonder if it would 'flash'when duller
materials wouldn't...

At any rate, synthetics aren't the wave of the future - they're the
present. Similar to the trend in gunstocks, natural materials now occupy
the luxury upper end or the *very*
cheap, lower end of things. I average maybe one recruit out of every
two dozen who might have a leather belt rig - the rest use cordura nylon."
