I bought a couple of Clearwater fillet knives from Matt for Christmas presents. They are great knives, but what I noticed is that when the knives are pushed all the way into the sheaths, there is a lot of resistance to pulling them out of the sheath. Has anyone else noticed this?

Sorry Bert….can't help you. Bringing this thread back to the top and maybe someone else can answer your question.
I've never even used the Clearwater series filet knife.
My users are from the mid 1980's.

Maybe they are designed for a snug fit since there is nothing to hold the knife in the sheath other than gravity.

Mitch,

You are right about that. The plastic sheath is much different than leather, so the knife does need to lock into place. I did find that removal of the knife seems easier if the sheath is on a belt instead of being held in my hand. I guess it's just something to get used to. I wasn't really complaining about the resistance; it's just something I noticed. These look like they should be great fishing knives.
