This is a Foster Bros model 118. It’s a large (over 3 lbs) cleaver obviously designed to butcher large animals. Does anyone know history or value? I am 70 and this cleaver was around and well used when I was a small child. mid this should be in kitchen forum, please move it. When I was little it was used in a dirt floor smokehouse .

You need a Gold level membership to ask values. There is a huge thread on cleavers here, a simple search restricted to just this forum will dig it right up. There are numerous Fosters in there if I recall correctly.
 
I've been wanting to get a big cleaver for a while now.

For value, I'd check ebay - and see what they are actually selling for (not necessarily what some sellers are asking).
 
Apparently, this is an ordinary cleaver, which was created in large volumes. However, it is quite old, nothing antique.
