Cleaver garage sale find.

Couple of weekends ago, I bought this older cleaver at a garage sale for $2.00. As you see, it is in poor shape. Much patina and rust. The spine has fresh grind marks, along with the cutting edge, probably done by previous owner. The blade is about 9", handles are about 6 1/4".

Was able to find the following markings on it:

FRIEDR, HERDER. ABR, SOHN Solingen, Germany.

9 . This marking is sideways after "Germany.

I guess my question is: Any value to this thing? Searched Google and could not come up with much. Any information on this cleaver would be appreciated. Thanx.

Clean it up and put a new handle on it.

Patina is good. In fact a lot of people talk about their favorite mix to force one. I'm not seeing the orange and reds of rust.

The rust pits are under the handles. Pic taken before I took them off. Thanx for the info so far.

You can clean up under the handle area and rehandle it, clean up the spine. Nice big cleaver.
