Cleaver sheath?

I have a kitchen cleaver that just knocks around in the drawer getting dinged up and threatening to cut me when I go fishing around in there, so I want to throw together a simple leather sheath to protect the edge and my fingers.

Has anyone made something like this that I can use for inspiration/plagiarization? If so, I'd love to see pics of what you've come up with.

Thanks!

I would just suggest a simple slipover cover, sewn on the edge and tip ends.

Thanks Erik, I think that's sort of what I was thinking about but if you happen to have a pic I'd love to see it!

Never actually done on unfortunately but it couldn't be too hard. Might want to cross lace the edges instead of sewing, though. Probably provide more protection for when you go digging through the drawer :D

PJ I have an old cleaver that I'll be making a slip cover for this weekend. If you don't mind, I can post pictures in this thread when it's done.

Heber,

That would be great! Please post some when you are done (of course, only do so if you don't mind me plagiarizing or taking some inspiration from your design.)

Paul, I will definantly post some pictures when it's done and I'll see if I can remember to take "Making of" pictures. Feel free to borrow the design/get inspiration from it. Will hopefully have something to show by Sunday. :)

Just fold it over, mark it stitch it. I guess you could call this my little pocket cleaver, except the front edge is sharpened too.

practice making some out of cardboard, if you can make it out of cardboard you can make it out of leather. I would put a gusset (a strip of leather that is in the stitching) in the blade side and have it fold over the back that way you don't have to worry about it cutting the stitching
if you want I can post a pic of a pattern that I would use for an idea

Thanks for the pics and additional input. I just need to sit down and sew one up. For sitting in a drawer, it obviously doesn't need to be much.
