Making last minute plans with a few friends for a hike this coming Saturday. Going to try out the Barker Valley Trail in the Palomar Ranger District. From what I read it's about 7 miles total out and back with 1,000' elevation change. Trail reports note the difficulty from easy terrain to moderate to strenuous to moderately strenuous...so who knows. Not like we're out to set any speed records. Getting to the trailhead means driving 8 miles on a poorly kept dirt road...low clearance vehicles beware.

Here's a brief description of the trail.

We'll meet at the trailhead around 9ish, eat lunch and chill at the half-way mark, then stroll back. Hopefully play with a few knives, take pics, and mess around with some new gear. If you're interested let me know.

Hey Jason whats for lunch... You are bringing the lunch right??????

Right, I exist so I can cater your lunch. You can eat what you catch. It's pretty snakey right now, so you're in luck.

I gots to work, or I'd consider it. But I would bring my OWN lunch! LOL

Have fun, take some pics, let me know how it is.

Let's meet at Hwy. 79 x Palomar Divide Rd. (Forest Rd. 9S07) at 9:15. At the moment it looks like seven people in three cars, so we'll all meet at the start of the 8 mile dirt road and drive to the trail-head in a group.

Hey guys Jason makes the best lobster and steak sandwiches. I say you should all demand the proper food lunch and dont fall for anything Jason says... He posted the hike, He makes lunch he carries it.. Its just proper.. Besides Jason who else would disagree with me????

Hiking down into the valley on the left. Palomar Mountain Observatory visible on the right.

Is it a dry creek? No, it’s the trail. Bottom 1/3 of the trail was pretty rocky.

The valley floor…plenty of places to set up camp.

The knife in the center is from Dan & Marce at Diamond J Knives. Very well made knife.

Oh, forgot to mention the after-party. There are a slew of wineries along hwy 79, so on the way back we stopped at one and did a little wine tasting and purchased a few bottles. After that we found a good sushi restaurant in Temecula and filled our bellies. Nice way to end out the day.

It was a great day for a hike. We all had a lot of fun.

I only took a few pics. Here are some of them.
