That's my two latest in a nutshell. Most of you guys know I did a photo shoot at the last NCCA show the week after Blade. I ran around like crazy doing photo stuff. But..... in my total of about 15 minutes inside the actual show (over the course of two days!), I managed to score a few for myself.

The first one stopped me dead in my tracks as I was handing out flyers. I have been envisioning a large see-through pivot design for a folder for a while. Along comes Dan Dugdale. Now many of you will look at this folder and say "Damn, that's a copy of Gerber's 'Chameleon'!" Well almost, but it's the other way around. :) Dan patented and sold the rights to Gerber for this unique design. (I was completely unfamiliar with the Chameleon knife until he told me his story. So this REALLY piqued my interest!). But read on....

The 2 3/4" blade is D2 and the flipper action is perfectly smooth, with dead-center closing. The finger hole is smooth and FUN! It has a spring-loaded button lock, and for this model the entire knife is machined from a *single* billet of 6061 aluminum, and hard-anodized. Now, here is what really impressed me: This knife smacks of CNC programming work. Nope, nada. Dan says the entire knife was made and machined without any programming or CNC help. Just a standard milling machine, rotary table, etc. It takes him a good while to get these done.

His newer models have a two-piece frame. I didn't want them. I wanted this slick integral!

I like kooky stuff as well as the traditional, and this is sure a bit nutty! :p Dan has no email or computer. Can you believe that? Another of the untold many that are NOT part of our internet world. Crazy.

Ok, next was a thoroughly delightful fixed blade that is about as traditional as they come. Steve Skiff and his wife Kim are regulars at the small shows up in our area. Steve does folders, too. Hopefully these guys will make their way into larger venues soon.

I saw how beautiful this tapered-tang cocobola hunter was and I commented, that if it hadn't found a buyer by the end of the show, it was going home with me. Well, the next day--'come to poppa'! (The price was VERY reasonable: well less than $200) The fit and finish is flawless, and I mean FLAWLESS! Steve sends each knife home in bubble plastic wrap and inside a tidy hardboard box. These guys know quality. Again, no website that I am aware of. :( (OAL 7 1/4" of 154CM) 'Skiff Made Blades ~ Handcrafted in the Adirondacks'

Both are totally Custom knives. If anyone wants more contact info give me a shout. I had a great weekend, too!

Beautiful acquisitions.

I did not know about the Gerber knife until after the show and seeing it in a magazine - then I remembered those impressive hand-mades that were on that man's table. Nice score.

Skiff's work was excellent. It's remarkable how many more makers there are beyond those who are regulars on the web.

Coop :

I Love the SKIFF....did it come with that awesome sheath as well ?
He does kick butt blades and kick butt sheaths as well ??

feel free to forward me some contact info , when you can , and have a a safe 4th of July weekend.

** Nice picts as well ! **

Tell you what, there were a number of very well made and very reasonably priced knives at the Blade Show in Atlanta.

both of those are VERY VERY nice................

glad to see some pics back on this forum-it really turned me off when the "moderators" decided they shouldnt be here. Custom knives NEED good pics. Its what keeps this place interesting.

Nice pics, knives and write-up Coop! That folder is just way cool.

Cheers,

Roger

 That Dugdale is awesome ! Love those scales ! !

As ususal. . .beautiful pic's Coop ! :)

The clarity and colours of the pictures do bring out the best in both knives. :)

Thanks guys for the comments and compliments. I'm pleased with my choices even more!

Tom, glad to see I made the right choice. I was going to stick this in the Gallery, but I decided it WAS about customs, not just showing off clean pics of knives.

Thought I'd bring this back up. Steve makes a fantastic knife and he is very reasonably priced as Coop mentioned above. His fit and finish is excellent and his knives carry the sort of precision look that you would expect from a craftsman who is also an accomplished machinist. I have a sweet little folder I picked up from him last spring. Note the cool opener grooves on the front of the knife:

Nice to see both these guys make the climb back up. Since you're here, I had taken another photo of one of Steve's folders a while after this one:

You'll hear and see more of Steve soon, I hope. And that goes for Dan Dugdale as well.

EDIT: OK, I give up. Has there been a policy change in displaying BF uploaded pics? Hmmmm....

Coop,
Met Steve and Kim at the Mick Koval Greater Ohio Valley Knife Show a couple of weeks ago. Both very nice folks. They make a very good husband and wife team at a show. Steve had half a dozen folders at the show. His workmanship is outstanding. His designs are very attractive. The action on his folders is as smooth as anybodys I have seen. His fit and finish is just excelllent. IF you are a collector, I'd recommend buying from Steve soon as I believe his knives have nowhere to go but up in value and price.

Thanks for sharing the pics.
