Most knives being used on boxes tend to end up with tape residue on the blades, and it drives me nuts. WD40 which seems good for everything now comes in a "WD40 Pen". I picked up 3 of them at Home Depot. They are like a felt tip marker and when you press down on the point it releases a little WD40 onto the felt tip. Rub it on the blade and wipe it clean with whatever.

Nice and portable and avoids the mess of the spray can. I now have one in my desk, glove compartment and in with my Edge Pro Case.

alcohol pads work well too and are easy to carry..........
Alcohol also disinfects, which is nice if you prepare food with your knife. WD-40 tastes pretty gnarly, ya know!! :barf:

I've never tried it on a knife, maybe I will on one of my cheap knives, but I clean everything with carbeurator cleaner. That stuff is mean. Will take anything out of anything. And it's always handy.

Tape gunk I'm long time friends with, but my best approach is just sliding my fingers across the blade (not the edge, preferably.....). It works surprisingly well.
