I posted this in the general discussion forum, but since I borrowed Clich's patina process, I felt i should post it here, too. It posed with a 9, so it should be ok :D

I know that some people are intrigued by this knife but find little info on it. I pulled the trigger a couple of weeks ago and have been very satisfied. So far it's only done light chores, and what I did to it is purely cosmetical, but my take is that this knife is well designed.

The construction is pretty KISS (keep it simple, stupid). 1/4" full tang 1095, 6" blade with a slight recurve, rubber scales and nylon sheath. It feels hefty in the hand, but not overly so. The scales feel comfy, and they are atached with screws straight to the tang as the tang holes are tapped.

The sheath is sometimes berated by some, but I found it to be a nice surprise. the belt loop is a folded flap over velcro, so belt width shouldn't be an issue. Same goes for the handle strap. If you decide to go with thinner or thicker scales, this strap is velcro adjustable. There is a small removable front pouch that while not really big, is enough to hold a SAK or small fire kit. I have a small altoid can with matches and charcloth, and a small vic sak stuffed there. The plastic liner has ridges that grip the blade and eliminate rattle. There's also a strap on the back with velcro and snap.

For the price, this is quite some package. Time will tell on performance. As for now, I just borrowed on clich's patina job after stripping the coat (which was rather tuff to get rid off) and etched some of the blade marks.

I should have taken some shots with a BK2, as they are similar in size. Will do later. here's with a BK9:

that's a nice looking blade!

Please do the BK2 comparo pics! Im interested

Googling ''SCHF9'' now... :)

* is that a Purposeful mark/design near the tip of ur 9 or is that just a scratch? looks almost like a Native American tribal design

They look great!

If I remember correctly, the SCHF9 was designed by a bladeforums member here by the name of Mistwalker. He does great reviews and photos too!

wait. thats a ''schrade'' which means Taylor Inc (may they rot in hell) which means ''China''.

too bad, I liked the design.

If Im wrong about nonUSA let me know, for ~30$ I would buy one.

This one is made in Taiwan, and while it's DEFINITELY not my first choice, I have a few blades from Taiwan, that, dare I say it, have had some better quality fit and finish than blades that I have from the States. The Spyderco Gayle Bradley comes to mind. For that price, I think it's a steal. I wouldn't mind trying one.

Kabar also uses some Taiwanese manufacturers.

I made a vow to never buy another china/taiwan.bangladesh/pakistan/india knife. It's my private lil protest about how Effed up Gerber and Schrade are now.
I mean no offense to the OP or designer, I like it, I just wish they weren't Taylor Inc (may they rot in hell) made.

Hey, I don't blame you! I think the move to offshore manufacturing sucks, personally. I've just found that some models from Taiwan in particular, with the proper managing from the parent company, aren't so bad for the money. I MUCH prefer US made products and most blades that I own are from here. In the end it's a personal choice as you said. I'll also say that a few japanese blades that I own are very nice as well, but that's a different story.

Kyle

yep, it's made in China. It was also designed by a forum member. It can be had for under 40 bucks. I do have some really nice china-made blades but to each their own, I don't aim to start a china vs usa bash... just saying that it's well made and inexpensive, which is always good in my book. Cheers.

oh, thrillbilly, missed your question. The mark on the 9 started as a scratch from a too tight fit on one of my earliest kydex attempts, before I learned to tape the blade before folding over. Started to scratch it with another knife, a ZK acheron, and came up with some sort of tribal fighting cock, lol. But I have a feeling the lil cock's days are numbered as that coat is gonna come off...or maybe I will etch with pcb, lots of options. Yep, made up my mind, before stripping, etch the cock, then strip and clich the flats, bingo!

I'll jump in. I also have one of these on order, (SCHF9) should arrive tomorrow. I also have the SCHF 1 and 2. I know it's a real sore spot, but ive kinda beat the snot out of both and they impress me for the price. Now, onto real knives, ;) My BK2 arrived today, happier then a pig in poop! I'll post more on that later, I only mention because I'll take both knives into the brush (BK2 & SCHF9) real soon and see what trouble I can cause!

I thought it looked like more then a random spot!

Im not saying that becuz its a china knife it has to be crap, Im just pissed about what some brands have done to their QC by shipping overseas, The ''Portland Oregon'' Gerbers were nice....the ones Ive tested since they went to Taiwan...not so much. Also a shame what happened to the Schrades.

LOL dont let my personal (and probably crazy) boycott stop you from enjoying that blade. I do like it, and if it was MistWalker's design I applaud his work...looks great.

Hell, maybe I should waver a bit and try it out. ;) I can always add it to RogueBowies ''destruction'' thread if i dont like it or manage to break it LOL

I hear ya, I still have a Portland Gator on active duty after 11 years. These days you see a bear grills overpriced object-that-looks-like-a-knife and want to gouge your eyes out.

Yeah, that's the one that Mist designed.

I placed the schrade sheath sideways so u can kinda see the removable front pouch and velcro belt flap.

Nice cliching.

I like the design on that knife, how's edge retention vs the 1095cv of the Beckers?

I forgot about Mist's blade design with schrade, looks like a nice knife for the price, would trust it many times more than BG fodder.

I am going to have to look into clich's patina technique if I ever get around to stripping my 9.....looks pretty good.

Be very careful when etching your cock. :D

LOL!!!

As for edge retention, I have no clue, have had this knife for 2 weeks and only used once, battoned some wood but nothing really hard, but it did have a pretty sharp factory edge for a quarter inch knife, still slices paper.
