OK, well maybe not my business per se, but my first cliching attempt came out pretty well....

more pics later....about to time out on the computer tonight if i want to keep the peace....Might sneak in on the Droid during bathroom breaks....:D

Anyway, I tried my own application process. Basiclly I bought a small paintbrush and took some scissors to the tips, making them more jagged. Kind of "texturizing" it like what the girl that cuts my hair does with a razor comb. Then I dip it in the blue, dab off the extra and drag the tips across it.

This is what it looked like:

I did not do the second bluing....I thought it looked perfect as is.

Looking forward to doing the flats on my 2 and 9 now....

The striping worked out well! Did you protect the edge or just let it all get etched then regrind the edge?

I didn't protect the edge. I just got a 6 pack of medium belts for my work sharp, so I get get it back in shape in about 10 seconds.

Still working on the 11. Not QUITE as nice as the 16, but good. I kind of wish I had unwrapped it and done the entire knife though. I'll probably let it stay as is and keep it as a beater/user knife. It's gotten a lot smaller than it's original size from excessive grinding/shaping/sharpening...just need to retire it and get a new 14.

This really isn't hard folks. Once you get the nerve to do a knife and see the process, you find it's no big deal. Just a matter of not overdoing the blue. Make sure you have some 100 grit though...I thought I did and I didn't. Had to setting for a scotch brite pad and 350 grit. Going to keep shining up the 16. I was going to etch "BK16" on the blade, but stupid Radio Shack was out of etchant, and I didn't want to wait anymore.

really aint a big deal at all. looks great man

I like the stripes. May have to go cut up a brush now LOL so I can Tannerize my blades!

Looks great man! Thanks for the before and after shots. I always wondered if the blued areas stayed blue or got lighter. Damn fine.

Out of the cauldron of evil....

Now I'm going to HAVE to get wood scales. I still have to give TTW some $$$ for my Potbelly handles. Modding costs money....

It almost looks like stone. That thing is gonna look unreal with wood scales.

You just pushed me over the edge C_Tanner. I am going to pick up some supplies tonight. lol

Nicely done, Tanner. I like how it came out. Some wooden scales will look great with that blade.

It would...and a leather sheath. However I just got a kydex one! Cliched blades don't seem at home in kydex to me. Argh! Wouldn't seem weird if we hadn't got saddled with that damn FFG. I want a saber ground one SOOO bad. The only reason I cliched it is because FFG blades look bland stripped, and I dont like them black. A stripped saber/hollow grind looks nice. Right now it is in the black stock sheath, and the kydex is on my pack waist belt, so its ok for know. Thing cuts like a demon though since I got the new work sharp belts.

What is etchant? How do you put "words" into the etch design.
ANd man that looks SHARP! Unti lyou get the woods slabs, you could try a cool cord wrap like Rick does.

Way to go C_tanner. What grit sand paper did you use to knock down the initial grime after the bleach bath? I wanna attempt this eventually, just need to figure out a good practice blade. Maybe ill try on my 14.

I used some industrial scotch brite pads that I took from work a while ago, then 320grit. I didn't have any 100grit. It's a pain in the ass job, but it's nice when it's over.

With the black handles and the black stock sheath it looks pretty good. Don't have to worry about wood and leather for the time being.
