I just received a Doug Ritter mini griptilian a few days ago. When slowly opening the blade there is a slight click. It is when the lock moves to the rear prior to sliding forward and locking the blade. Any one else have this problem or know if it is normal? On my full size 550 there is no click. Please reply.

Funny you should bring this up. I just got a Ritter mini a couple of weeks ago. It clicks both on opening and closing at about 33% open and 67% closed; i.e. at the same point in travel both ways. I'd been thinking about posting the same question.

That is the exact problem that I'm having.

4 of the 7 BM knives with axis locks I just checked also do this. If you watch the axis lock closely you can see it shift slightly to the spine side when it clicks. I think it is caused by the omega springs tension on the axis bar pushing it in the spine direction as the axis bar slides over the corner of the blade tang at the point which the axis lock changes direction.

I think it is "normal".

Going to give Benchmade a call tomorrow morning and see what they can/will do about it.

Let us know what they say. I had never noticed it until I just checked and it certainly doesn't seem to affect the lock integrity.

Definately doesn't seem to affect the lockup at all, just that slight click that throws me off. I will keep you all posted.

All that is, is the Axis bar moving out of the notch on the blade tang and around the corner grind on the tang. Open the knife by using the thumb stud or hole only and watch the Axis bar move as the blade swing open. Some Axis knives make a little click when this happens. It does it also when the blade is closed. Some models do it more than others the 530/531 have a more pronounced notch and make the most "click" on my Axis BMs.
Nothing wrong with your knives.

Despite the hours posted on the Benchmade website it appears they were closed today when I tried to call. I'm going to give them a call monday and I will keep you all posted.

I have a feeling they will tell you it is normal. I had never noticed the clicking noise until you brought it up, so I went and checked 6 of my Mini's and they all do it.

Knowing Benchmade they may tell you that you can send it in, and they will check it out and touch up the edge for you, but I would be surprised if they can get rid of the noise. Then again, I've been wrong before.

My 940 does this, I just checked. I'm inclined to say it's normal, I never even noticed it until now

My Kulgera and Mini Stryker both "click" in the same positions as you describe. I would say that it's normal.

I had the same problem with my Barrage. However, it happened only a couple days after receiving it and now that I have had it for a month the sound is gone. I think it just needed to be broken in.
