CLIFF! Did ya' get your Fehrman yet?

Thanks, Walking Man! I hate to be a pest, but I own a Final Judgement, and I know Cliff ordered the Extreme Judgement. I am just dying to see what kind of punishment he dishes out (and what the Fehrman will take)!

do you own the "old" final judgment or the newer style final judgment? how textured or rough are the micarta slabs? for some reason, the older ones looked rougher.

No, mail is very slow around christmas. Not that it is fast here any other time though.

I have the newer version. The handle seems like it would become slippery when wet, but it doesn't. Actually, it gets an almost tacky kind of feel and seems to improve the grip. Although, I could just be going slowly insane from eating lead-based paint chips a child. :D

How is the texture on the micarta for the newer version? would you call it "rough"? any comparisons to other micartas you may have?

once fehrman starts taking orders again, i'm itching for an extreme judgment. my thru hiker needs his daddy ;)

The micarta is definitely not rough. The cross-hatching helps the grip, but they could have maybe been a little deeper or spaced closer together. As I stated, it is kinda' weird; the handle is pretty smooth (think fine-but not extra fine-sandpaper applied finish), yet I've never has a problem with it feeling slippery. Buy one regardless; the handle texture of micarta can always be fine tuned with some rough sandpaper!

The first Micarta I ever used was on a knife made by Newt Livesay. Newt had polished the handle to the point it shined. I thought it would be a problem but the stuff grips very well. The wetter it gets the better it grips. Since that time we have used Micarta on just about everything that needs a handle. It doesn't "hot spot" your hand like some of the rubbery materials do. (At least not for me). My personal preference on any Micarta handle is no type of cross-hatching or milled surfaces. The stuff grips fine without it and what I've found about grooves is they can cause hot spots whereas smooth Micarta won't.

You'll love Ferhman's stuff. He's really got his quality control processes down pat from the stuff I've been seeing. Great maker and great guy!
