Clip, Belt or in the Pocket?

How do you carry your knives? I don't care for the clips at all, I prefer pocket carry, even for the larger folders. I do carry a Bucktool on my belt most of the time though. How about the rest of you, which is your preferred method of carry?

All three, sometimes at the same time depending on what I am wearing and what I am doing. I prefer the belt and pocket clip carry because it lets me stuff my pockets with other stuff (or more knives) and I can still find the knife I need.

Clipped/pocket.

Much easier than having to reach all the way under my shirt to retrieve a knife from my waistband.

I keep my stockman and SAK in my pockets. My AFCK clipped to my front right pocket, and if I'm in the field a sheath knife on my belt

The AFCK is always there if I need it in a hurry, and the SAK and stockman can still fit in the bottom of the same pocket.

Folders are pretty much always clipped, although I have a cheap $4 knife I use when I know that the balde will be damaged, and that doesn't have a clip, so into the pocket it goes. My BM Nimravus (only fixed-blade so far, but more are on the way) rides IWB, 45-degrees back on my right, ala a custom sheath by Normark, I do randomly change carry positions every so often, for variety, but that's my favorite.

Clipped.
Hate the way the clip feels in my hand but like the easy access. Also carry on belt in sheath but thats in addition to the one clipped to my pocket.

NOW, one clipped to my front pants pocket and one inside my other front pants pocket!

I use to carry one clipped to the right front pants pocket, one clipped to the left front pants pocket, one inside my right front pants pocket, and a multi-tool in a sheath on my belt.

I'm a changed man now!

Large Sebenza clipped to the right pocket with a slipjoint throw in the bottom. Overall preferance is strongly in favor of being clipped to the pocket.

It's only a mistake if you fail to learn from it!

I carry my BM Stryker clipped IWB, toward my front but angled back at an extreme angle, almost horizontal. That way, the clip is mostly hidden behind my belt. When I sit down it rests right along the inside of my waistband, over my thigh. This carry is so comfortable, I often forget it is there or think that I lost it.
In this way I can carry this big folder to the office, or to the park, or around kids and it goes unnoticed. For extra discreet carry I will shift it over to my left side so the shiny blade spine is facing down.

In the front right pocket, clipped is my constant.

A heavy, roughly cylindrical object loose in the front pocket can find a funky angle, and, well, "imprint" sorta funny. It's hard being asked so often if we're glad to see someone when it's so rare that we are.

I also do small-of-back for my Wegner fixed or a puukko. I'll either go IWB or with a horizontal carry there.

Just got back my Sorg-Broadwell camp knife with it's (bee-yootiful!) new sheath from Bob Schrap. Trying it on, I realized that with a blade that long, carrying on the hip strongside made the draw nearly impossible. So that big fella goes cross draw on the left.

Hmmm... well, ummm... all. Right now, I've got:

  • Spydie Mil clipped right front pocket
Benchmade Axis slipped in left front pocket (clipped with I leave the office)
Buck 532 in a belt pouch on left front
Victorinox Executive in left front pocket
Spyderco Bladeforums Native clipped just to the right of my belt buckle
I think that's all.... yep, that's all of 'em.

Depends.

For an "ordinary pocketknife" I carry it in my pocket.

I usually carry larger folders in a belt pouch.

If the folder has a clip, I might wear it any one of several places. I generally have a small Gerber EZ-Opener clipped on the waistband of my pants at the small of my back. I know several guys that carry knives in that same fashion. But I will also carry folders clipped to and in my pockets.

The only time I carrry a sheath knife is hunting and even then normally in my rucksack.

Spyderco Native, clipped, right front pocket. This is generally where my daily carry goes, unless it's clipped to my shirt front.
Leatherman Micra in left front pocket.

Bladewizard,
I have to agree with you about the clip.
The main reason I don't like a clipped knife, is the feel of the clip in my hand. I guess I might get used to it, but I'm just too stubborn and set in my ways.

If it has a clip it gets clipped in my back right pocket. If it doesn't have a clip, and is largger than 3.5" to 4" it goes in abvelt sheath. I always carry a gerber multi lock on my belt to, so I usually try to carry a folder with a clip.

Gotta go with copper on this one....he's right on the mark for a good discreet, secure yet accessable carry. Btw I find my sifu...yeah that dang big ugly blade, just disappears from sight and thought with this type of iwb carry, though crossdraw position works best for me with this blade. This carry position also protects clip from inadverdant catching on something if involved in close activity of anykind as well as keeping a low visual profile.
