Clip bites?

While I've never cut myself with one of my Spydercos, I do have two scars now on my right hand where the clip has bitten me -- peeling off a patch of skin as the clipped knife passes my hand as I get out of an armchair.

Is this a common experience or are these clipits so bloodthirsty that if you don't cut yourself with the blade, it will "get you" anyway it can.
