Clip Carry

I am new to clip carry knives (Leek) and am curious to know if there is any advantage to either front or rear pocket carry. Any help is appreciated.

Whatever's most comfortable for you. I carry mine clipped to my front right pocket. I've never tried my back pocket, sounds uncomfortable, but you never know. If you're right handed, you would most likely want it on your right side, but to each his own.

I dont like everyone behind me seeing I have a knife clipped to my back pocket.

Seems it would be way too easy for someone to take my knife either to assault me with it or just plain steal it. I keep my pen clipped to my back pocket and my knife clipped to my right front pocket.

Sometimes I carry my knife inside my waistband at about "4 oclock" (if 12 oclock was where your belt buckle rides). It can be covered by a shirt easily. I usually have it there when I'm in school...

I keep a small folder(Leek or Cricket)in my watch pocket, and a larger one(710 or SERE) in my rear pocket. I've had no trouble sitting on my knives, but Im not a large man(6ft 170Lbs). ok 5' 10"!

jvan: WELCOME too BF!!! I personally feel it is easier to loose a knife, when clipped to the back pocket. But that is just me. I prefer right front pocket carry, IWB appendix carry, and left front pocket carry.

I find having it clipped in my right rear pocket next to my wallet is where its the least annoying. It never bothers me there. If i dont want it to be as visible ill clip it to my right front, but that sometimes bothers me when i am sitting down.

I would worry about losing it in the back pocket. Especially while sitting. Plus, it's more overt and obvious, which may or may not matter to you.

I carry both ways, either front pocket or back pocket. Depends on the knife, though. If it's one with a Wave, it nearly always goes in the front pocket. I generally carry FRN Spydies in the back, usually my 710 as well. Most others go in the front.
There's no real method to my madness, save the Wave exception.

True. So many people stare at my butt, that it makes my pocketknife very obvious when I carry it back there. :p ;)

Welcome to the forums, I carried my leek for 2 to 3 years in my front right pocket. Then after I got my Emerson and BM I moved it to my back right pocket. I never found/find either uncomfortable, but I can feel them.

I carry smaller folders in my RF pocket and larger ones are usually carried IWB over my right rear pocket. I also have a preference for my "gentleman" folders to be carried without using a clip. Over the years I have found that I would not be able to use a pocket knife for defense so what does it matter if it takes an extra second to find it.

I carry clipped folders in my right rear pocket. I don't carry in the right front because I carry my wallet and keys there and I access those more often than my knife. The knife gets in the way if it is clipped to right front pocket. I only carry small knives so sitting down with a knife in the back pocket is not a big deal. Never had one fall out. Knock on wood.

I've carried a Leek in my RF pocket for some time now. RR is too "pickable".
Wallet in LF, better for my back if you can believe it! My chiropractor suggested it, and it cured a twinge in my back. Who'd a thought?!

I carry both ways. Sometimes because the knife only allows either tip-up or tip down, sometimes because I prefere a certain knife a certain way.

With the Leek I definately prefer tip-up. This way when you pull it out of your pucket it is already perfectly positioned in your hand to be flipped open.

There is also something to be said for keeping the blade toward the back of the pocket, so the clip has to be on the right side if you are going to carry the knife tip-up. With tip-down it doesn't matter so much, but with tip up, if it is set up so that the blade opens up towards the front, (as in the back of your pocket is not holding the knife closed) it would be really easy to cut yourself if the knife accidently opened before you stuck your hand in your pocket. This is especially if the knife doesn't have a good detent.

Just my two cents. Really it doesn't matter though, however you are the most comfortable is the best way to carry your knife.

With tip up carry of a right handed knife in your right rear pocket the blade could open (murphy will find a way) and you could get a nasty slice when sitting or reaching for the knife. Maybe not likely, but possible.

I prefer tip up carry in the right and left front pockets. I am ambidexterous so I often carry a serrated knife in one pocket and a plain edge in another. I also fancy Waved knives so front pocket carry is most conducive to that mode of carry. I have tried to carry in the waist and in my back pocket but I just can't get past it. Besides I've always got my checkbook and my wallet in those back pockets so it is hard to justify making a new habit after a lifetime of an old one.

Greetings jvan!

Welcome to Blade Forums. It is just preference. You may like your front pockets free to put your hands in or maybe you are left-handed or for what ever reason, you will put the knife where you like it the most.
I prefer my knives in my right front pocket. My knives are tip-up because most of my knives are usually waved open.

Stay sharp!

Welcome to the forum.

I prefer my folder clipped to my right front (RF) pocket. I also prefer tip up whenever possible.

Enjoy your knife however it best fits you. :)
