Hey All. I just gave that Master Craftsman, Haze, an Idea for a cool pocket clip for the Emerson knife clips. I hope he does it. That's all for now. Stay tuned.

Well---forget the clip idea. STR told me it's too much of a pain to drill into a hardened clip.
Back to the DB.

I think it could be done but it would be a nippy one though.

Just drilling round holes might not look the best but if I can get a shot
of a milling machine at my friends shop I could probably do something.

I have a few spare EKI clips so I'll take one or two with me next time I'm there.

I'm still trying to get time at the shop to do my kerambit frame lock first though :grumpy:

Emerson Knuts---FWIW. I told Haze to drill eyes, nose and teeth holes in the pocket clip. It would look like a skull and the holes might make the clip a tad grippy.
Thanks, Haze.

It would look sweet! Using a milling machine it shouldn't be too much of an issue that its hardened. Remember its all in the speed and feed.

The only problem I can see apart from the rigers of machining small, hard bits of metal
is finding a milling bit small enough to get the detail you need for the teeth and nose.

The clip shouldnt be that hard, its not as hard as the blade is any way.

I was actually thinking about this last night and the other option I thought of is to have the clip engraved.
I know a guy who does some amazing work so I'll see what he says to a skull engraving.
I'll be seeing him before I get time to go to the machine shop so its a good option in the mean time.
You could get way more detail and still have holes for the eyes and nose etc.
The only problem with that option is the probable cost of the engraving.

He did a mamoth Mnandi with a Japanese style carp pond engraving for a friend of mine that was nothing short of ridiculous .

Personally I think it would be easier to just copy the whole clip in titanium and have a stamp made so you could just hit the stamp with a ball peen hammer and put a skull in it or anything else up to maybe 45 Rockwell if you made sure to tell them to harden the punch end to be higher than that. Maybe somewhere like 55 RC would still be tough enough to withstand hammering yet hard enough to resist bending and still not be brittle. Infinity Stamps or someplace like that would probably make it but it would cost you probably upwards of $200 or $300 just for the stamp. That is unless they have a generic one already made up that you see that you like.

If I were to do it I'd have to weigh how much I'd get for each clip stamped with the skull to figure how many I'd have to make and sell to justify the stamp purchase.

A stamp would defo be the way forward if you want more than one.

Doing one on a milling machine would be an afternoon well spent but doing any more than that would be totally impractical.

I'm sure thats why Ernie has the skull and pirate clips etched and not stamped or engraved.

The clips would end up costing as much as the knives do

Haze and STR---Thanks for thinking about this one.
Steve, I like that skull stamp. :)

Hum, sounds like a good project, as long as that Emerson skull is not trademarked.

I dare say the skull and pirate logo are property of EKI.
I could be wrong but dont see them chasing us down with pitch
forks and flaming torches for putting an EKI logo on an EKI knife. :p

I think the skull and crossbones have been around since long before EKI guys. Pirate ships for example and the skull and bones secret society among others. Not to forget even other knife companies have used skull logos before. The Harley Davidson items often times have them stamped and for that matter the Harley Davidson HardTail that I have has skulls on the G10 and on the clip.
