clip/lanyard kit for Wave-adaptable to old Wave?

Hey guys. I have an old style Leatherman Wave kicking around in my toolbox. I mostly carry A Victorinox Spirit but would consider carrying the Wave again if it had a pocket clip.
Lo and behold Leatherman has a Pocket Clip/Lanyard accessory kit for the Charge, Surge and Wave (2004 and later).

Unfortunately my Wave is a pre-2000 model.
So really i have a few questions-
How different is the old Wave from the newer model?
(Comparison pics would be cool)
Do you think the Clip/lanyard can be adapted to an old Wave?
Does anybody here have any experience with the Clip/Lanyard accessories for the Wave?

The new Wave has a dedicated space for the pocket clip and lanyard hole, using the tools locking mechanism to hold it in place. The old Wave does not have this, so there is no way to fit it.

As a possibility, someone on this forum fitted a Leatherman Kick pocket clip to their Vic Spirit (can't remember who). Maybe this can be done to your Wave. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on mods will post details.

Might just have to try the mods myself.
Probably mod the Spirit and just put the old Wave back in the tool box.
