Hi everyone. :)
I'm trying to find a new EDC right now, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. My desired specifications are as follows: fixed clip point blade, blade length 3-4 inches roughly, and around 7 inches overall. This knife will mostly be used as a self defence backup, but will also be used for light camp work, food prep, and just general usage around the house. The most I'm willing to spend is $250, but going above $200 will require some justification.
I've already done some looking around and was impressed by the Ban Tang Mini Bowie, and the Spyderco Street Beat.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Based on all of your requirements I would recommend the Street Beat. I have one and carry it IWB. Great size all purpose blade.

The street beat, or street bowie are great option and a good steel for EDC, Boker makes a Krein designed Pocket Bowie. 440C steel but only around 30 smackers. Go a bit larger and get a KA-BAR Becker BK17. The Becker will serve you very well and will be better suited for outdoors and all around usage.

The Krein is a little short given the OP's parameters for blade length and OAL. Cheaper than the Spyderco Perrin models are his mid-techs. Unfortunately, they don't exactly fit the OP's specs either. The original is a little shorter than the OP's specs, and the XL is a little longer. Worse comes to worse, he could buy the XL and have the blade shortened and still come in cheaper than either of the Spydies. I have the original and it's a good knife--unlike most of the mid-techs, it's a full flat grind rather than a chisel as on the La Griffes, Sharks, and Kiridashis.

Bark River has a couple lookers. the Essential EDC and City Knife I think. could be wrong on them, not really a BR guy.

ESEE 3 or 4 - the clip point version.

Only problem is they're not actually clip points, they just have that name. Kind of curious why they were named that way... Fine knives, but if he wants a technical clip point these don't fit the bill.

What a coincidence. I just bought a knife with your specs (CLIP POINT INCLUDED!) and it rocks. Contact Casey Bradshaw (bradshawblades) and see if he will make you one. The price will be in your range and you will love it.

kabar Mk1?

its what i think of when i think of a nice fixed blade "knife", nothing fancy just an old fashion belt knife.

kabars tend to be a little heavy because its a lot of steeel but the bone smashing pommel could really be a plus if self defense is big in mind.

i wouldnt feel to bad about carrying my Mora 511 around in some type of custom sheath, in fact id be thrilled as it gets.

it would be great in every role including SD with the liberal fingerguard. light as a feather, no cleaving or smashing power of a kabar but if you want a knife that cuts and is "pokey", cant beat my mora

Thank you for all of the replies.
I'll be sure to check out all of the recommendations and come back with my choice :D

If it's not too much to ask, do you think you could upload some photos of your knife?

What is a technical clip point? Just that sweeping upward point? I always thought it was a sharpened on the spine, which the ESSE is.

Ban Tang makes some sweet Clip points, also many other custom makers can hook you up for that price

I believe it's when you clip the steel ofthe spine of the knife from either side to bring it to a point as opposes to dropping the point or remaining flat.

Doesn't have to be sharpened or even what would be referee to as a "swedge" for that matter, just clipped steel
