Hi Guys,
Here's my latest.
5 1/4" Damascus blade, forged with hand and sledge hammers.......low layer(56) slow twist 1084 and 15n20
Antiqued nickel silver fittings......a bit of cro magnon quality engraving just for giggles, and cocobolo stock.
Will post more detail shots when the sheath is done.

All commentary welcome.
Darcy:)

Tidy bit of engraving on the ferrule..
Cocobolo looks great with the damascus, very nice work, Darcy.

Your blades are always graceful and well-balanced visually--this is no exception.

Nothing wrong with that, you done good. Very, very good. How worthy is the steel? I mean, aside from the good appearance, how does the steel perform?
I wonder if a more shapely contoured finger guard would enhance or detract, or be more comfortable?

Thanks for the reply. I test every blade for cutting performance and this steel performs very well. Definitely not just for show. I had a experienced vaquero in Sonora, Mexico use the knife in my avatar on a mule deer(I wasn't there:( but the owner related the experience to me)and he pronounced it the "best he'd ever used"...........for whatever that's worth.

I contoured the back side of the finger guard for comfort, there are no hot spots anywhere on it. I could easily make a more modern sculpted guard, but I prefer the classic looks of this style. I try(and sometimes succeed??) to blend classic with rustic and make it look as natural as possible and a more modern style guard would, I think, detract from that.

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to post.
Darcy:)

A few more pics. Still trying to get better with my photography(not to mention my engraving).

Really well done from the blade steel to the engraving and guard. Cocobolo is one of my favorite wood handle materials.
Sheath suites the knife as well. Even though I often like lanyards on smaller pieces I feel it looks a little out of place here.

Thanks for the kind words Kevin. I agree fully about the lanyard......it was requested by the customer so I had to put it on there, but I wouldn't have added it otherwise.

Very nice work all around Darcy. I like your style. I know how much work Damascus by hand hammer is and I REALLY appreciate how much work it took to get this one to completion. Thanks for sharing.

Love the whole package, including the cable knit sweater!

:D

You always seem to add JUST the right amount of details and design elements.
