My buddy who got me into knife making wanted one in payment for all the material and tooling he gave me. I figured it was only fair to make him something nice. My blade polishing needs improvement and this is my first bolster knife, so it was a real learning experience. Let me know what you think.

Full tang 3/16" ATS-34, not tapered, stainless steel thong hole
OAL: 10 1/4"
Blade: 5 3/4"
Handle: Cocobolo with black liners and nickel silver pins
Bolsters: Dove tailed in nickel silver

Any negative comments? Constuctive criticism is very welcome....

Teksec,
I'm not a fan of the pin spacing. Particularly the thong hole but not only the thong hole. Both of the other pins look like they could stand to move forward a bit. Nice grinds, and nicely polished balde. The pictures kinda suck and that may be the reason for lack of response. Mine always suck too.:D

Matt,

You know, after looking at it again, you're right. I put the pins too far apart and actually the thong hole was kind of an oversight. Forgot he had asked for one until after I had drilled the pins. Had I thought about it, I would have moved the butt end pin forward more to give the thong more "bite". The grinds did turn out well, I'm actually really proud of them, so thank you. Polishing, well, pics don't show the left over scratches...I don't think I spent enough time on the 400 grit. And yes, pics suck. They were actually taken with my Blackberry, so they are what they are. I have a camera box, but my lighting setup blew a bulb so I went with the natural outdoors....it is what it is. Anyhow, thanks for the critique, appreciate it. It's always better to have a non-biased eye look at it!

I think you should consider the safety of all forumite's eyes, who may view these pics, remove them immediately and ship the offending piece to me, where it will be dealt with appropriately.......:D :D

From what I can see it look good from this end of the computer. But I will say that the pins needed moved up and thong hole put in line with the pins or to one side. The knife looks great other then that, and your friend is luck to get it. Great job. I mark it as a B+-------

Thanks, guys! I really appreciate the critique. I love the fact that ya'll are so supportive. I also like the fact that you give reasons why something needs to be changed. I totally agree with the pins. Bad placement, dunno what happened between my head and hands on those. Great ideal to put the tubing on the rear pin and delete the extra hole for the thong. Wish I had thought of that before it was all pieced together. Live and learn! Once again, thank you all...

I think is is a great looking knife. BUT, I DO agree that the pins need to be moved up, and the thong hole needs to be in line with the pins.
