Clip point question

Hey there gang. I am new to the ESEE line up. I recently got a ESEE 4 and and ESEE-3 MIL in the clip point version. I'm loving the sharpened spine for using a fero rod. My question to you guys is this: Why aren't ALL of the ESEE knives clip point? Or at least offered with the CP? I understand the double edged law part, but what can possibly be wrong with the clip point? And when is the Izula coming out in a clip point?!?!?

It's detrimental in batoning tasks, which is pretty big for a lot of us hikers and campers. Also, I imagine a clip point also lacks the tip strength of the regular ESEE style. Aesthetics and opinions, too.

actually, some states and/or municipalities consider a sharpened clip of 1/3 blade length or more to be the same as carrying a dagger or other double edged knife, and therefore they're illegal to carry.
personally, I prefer non-sharpened swedges or clip points, so I'm very happy they didn't extend that feature across the board.

 that sums it up !
:D I still love my ESEE3MILCP though...

1. The legal portion as mentioned
2. The batoning aspect as mentioned
3. 1 less sharpened edge to control in the field. I like to be able to hold the spine of the blade in some applications. If they were ONLY available in CP I'd be upset. :D

I understand why they don't just make a knife with a clip point but offering that option is pretty cool IMO

I would defiantly buy a clip point Izula!

Well, the three, four and six are offered in clip points. That's a pretty big spread. I do plan on getting the cp versions. However I'd almost always also carry a non cp on hikes. I often press on the back during food prep. Not really necessary, but it's just what I do. Could be bad if I forgot and slapped down on a sharpened clip

Ok, I get the legal aspect. I can even respect the idea of a detrement to batoning - though I have not seen any reduction in effectiveness due to the clip point in my knife (maybe some marking on the baton, but that's it).

So how do you use a ferro rod? A second knife? The sharpened side (gasp!)?

The striker that comes with it, or better yet a section of hack saw blade. The back of the blade showers sparks very nicely.

I keep a firekit in each of my knife setups. It's really only there for emergency use. In an emergency, damn right I'm gonna use the blade. I could put in strikers, and I know they're small, but it's just one more thing in an already very tight kit. However, I also keep some sort of SAK in most, so I'd use that.

I do use a couple of my firekits to start fires on a regular basis. For those, I have a striker on a lanyard, or I use an Izula for it.

The one thing I'd like better for the clip points would be for all of them to have the canvas micarta scales like my ESEE-3MIL. Then it would be a no-brainer that I'd grab a second CP in a -4. As it is.... the linen micarta is really nice, but after trying all three (G10, linen, and canvas), I like the canvas the best.
