clip points?

Hi wiseguy

i belive the clippoint is older than any country existing today,

but maybe i will learn what a clippoint really is?

Near as can be found for reference is about 1840 ish in Arkansas or Louisiana.

Blacksmith made a large straight knife for Rezin Bowie and "clipped" the spearpoint [ which had previously been used and designed by rezin ] and carried by Jim Bowie as a gift from brother Rezin after the sandbar fight where Jim was wounded but survived his opponent.

Rezin made or had made the origial long knife Jim Bowie carried which is believed to be a straightbacked knife, or the spearpoint also could have been the first, no one is sure which design was first though both were used and carried by the Bowie brothers.. These evolved into the clipped point long knives over a decade of use and carrying them for self defense.

thanx. I looks like this sort of blade comes up in several different areas. Some South-East Asian countries have blades similar to this.

I know about spanish navajas from about 1790 - 1810 with clipped points, they come really close to the arkansas blades.
