Clip screw thread size?

I have a Blue Alemit Walker in which I would like to move the clip around a bit, and just need to know what thread size is used for those screws?

If anyone has some info that would be great. Thanks.

Is that knife made in Japan or the USA? I don't remember. If made in the US it most likely has 2-56 screws. If Japan I don't know what the size is. They are smaller than 2-56 usually though. I am not even sure you can buy the taps for that smaller size here in the states. In the past I've usually redrilled the holes that sported those smaller screws with a #51 drill bit and rethreaded them to the 2-56 size. This usually means inscreasing the size of the holes in the clip with a #44 drill also.

Here in the last few months I've had a few Japanese and Chinese knives in my shop that had 2-56 screws from the factory so there is a chance that may be the size you need even if it is Japanese.

It's Japanese I believe. It says "SEKI-JAPAN" on the blade stamp, so I assume at least the blade was made there...

Is a 2-56 just bigger in diameter or also in length than the Japanese screws (I'm assuming the screws are all the same size on the Japanese models)? Reason I was wondering is b/c I was thinking about moving the clip on my SS Police but I was thinking a 2-56 might be to long (the screws that are on it look to be as long as they can get before poking through the other side of the handle). My Dad said if he had to guess what size screw was on the Police it would be about a 4-40. My local hardware store doesn't carry anything even remotely close to either of those sizes so I wanted to make sure before I ordered something online that it wouldn't be to long when I got it. I guess if it was to long I could just cut it but it would be nice if I could order something that was close enough to the right length not to require modification.

If you can find an extra 2-56 screw, try it on the walker and if it fits, it's a2-56 if not..

Those numbers are not the length of the screw but the thread size. You have to cut the screws to the correct length.

Spyderco's Japanese knives use smaller than 2-56 on clips like the Calypso Jr. and larger ones on clips like the Ocelot. I suspect that the screws on any Japanese knifea are anything but 2-56 but the Byrd line appears to be 2-56. At least the one I worked on was.

I just pulled one of the clip screws off of my blue Walker(it takes a T6 torx wrench) and checked it with my screw pitch gage. It is not a UN pitch, none of the leaf's matched up with the threads on the screw.48 tpi was to coarse, 56 tpi was close, but not exact and 64 tpi was to fine I don't have a metric pitch gage, but by measuring the diameter of the screw I would guess either a M2 x 0.4 or a M2.5 x .045. The outside diameter of the screw fell in between the spec's of these two sizes.

Hope this helps some.
