Clip screws and CF, strong enough?

Is carbon fiber strong enough to hold clip screws without metal inserts? Thanks ln advance for any advice.

Tapping CF is very unpleasant, the material is mechanically strong enough but the way it is formed means that it doesn't tap very well. I have a friend that tried it a few times, you have to be careful about torquing the screws down.

Its on my Benchmade 940-1, I don't see any metal there, but the holes are beautifully milled for the screws.

Is that model linerless?

Edit

Just looked up that particular model and it has stainless liners so I'd imagine that the clip is tapped into the liners.

There should be metal inserts called "captive nuts" present.
CF will not hold a 2-56 screw under pressure without stripping out.

Keyman is dead on! Look inside the scales where the clip screw would poke through if too long. You will see what looks like three metal rings. You need good light as they are black and blend great with the cf.

Awesome knife and congrats on purchasing. I LOVE MINE! I had to save nearly a year to get it but well worth it.

You can detect the captive nuts with a magnet on the C/F Benchmade 940. I have a C/F William Henry knife with 2-#0X80TPI SS Helicoil inserts. #2X56TPI Helicoils are widely available as are the kits needed to install them.
I have installed #2X56TPI Helicoils in G-10 and Valox handles. I have also installed #5X40TPI Helicoils in Titanium handles from which 1/8" rivets were removed.
Benchmade also installs captive nuts in their 940/943 Titanium handles.View attachment 452578
