I hate the shiny clips as they are eye magnets. I have a pile of Voyagers, do those pocket clips fit the AUS8A Hold Out 1 ? Thanks.....Alternatively, does anyone have a tip for blacking out, permanently, or at least semi permanently, these silver colored pocket clips ? Thanks again.

Quickest way is to burn it on the flame, it'll make it brown or bronze depending on the duration and steel type. But you won't get it black unless you paint it with something.

If you heat it too much you will make it soft and it will not hold the knife. Rough the finish up with some 600 grit sandpaper and paint it with a flat black paint pen. You will be able to touch it up whenever you want.

No, they don't fit. CS Voyagers have curved clips, the Hold Out series have straight clips. That is due to their respective handle shapes.

weird, i find the black clips stand out just as much...guess depends on what color pants you are wearing......

Thanks all. I have a boat load of folders to check the Hold Out with. If no go, I'll scruff it up and paint it. Supposed to be in today. It is always great fun when one of those boxes arrive. :)

I saw a carbon fiber clip on a knifemaking supplies website for about $8. Something like that would be easy to drill and sand using your old clip as a template. I wonder how stainless the CS clips are, and if roughing them up and mustard-soaking them would force a dark enough patina. Never hurts to try.

You could try 3M tread tape. It's not permanent, but it's available in black and improves your grip on the knife. I haven't tried ferric chloride, but I've read here that it either frosts stainless to look as if stonewashed or like black phosphate.

I also read something about battery Sulphuric Acid as a possibility.

I have also considered sand blasting prior to a soak.
