Clip to coping?

I recently acquired a rough rider whittler, and I'd like to change the secondary clip blade into somewhat of a coping blade. I've never done anything like that before (closest would be filing down the kick on a knife so the blade wouldn't sit too high and catch on anything). I also have no access to a belt grinder or anything like that, so I'm wondering if it's possible to do with hand tools, such as a file. Any experience, tips, suggestions?

I'm not sure how hard the blade is, but I'd be very surprised if a standard file wouldn't work. You certainly don't need any power tools to re-profile a little blade like that. I've re-profiled 10" fixed-blades with a standard file.

And if the blade were too hard for a standard file, I'd get a inexpensive set of diamond files. I have a few of those as well.

As far as tips- wrap the knife with masking tape so you don't accidentally scratch it if you slip with the file.
