clip vs drop point

There's no "correct" answer to that. Just depends on what you like and what you're going to use it for.

Clip points can make for really fine, sharp points for fine detail work. They can also be sharpened to stab and slash better in a self-defense situation. Not usually all that necessary in camping or woodcraft. Drop points are stouter, and most are plenty pointy and sharp to poke into anything you might need to. Other than that, like Bob W said, it's really personal preference.
 
Drop point. But thats only because theres no bones in ice cream.

All things being equal the above points are valid. But a clip point Chris Reeves is one thing, and the clip points sold in self serve gas stations or check cashing outlets another.
 
I learned my aversion to clip point blades early in my life with the first Buck folders. That Bowie clip point always seemed more dangerous to me than to my target. As Kav said, a quality knife is a different proposition than the cheapies that are out there.
