it doesn't really bother me so much as, why does it look like that. I've only had it since January. None of my other knives have clips looking like that. I feel that it came to look like this too fast

I dislike any painted clips. The ones I do like however are black oxide. Polish the paint off of it and leave it be.

No personal stake in this, my knives are either safe queens, where the clip will never get scratched, or have had the clip removed and are carried loose in my back pocket making "clip wear" an non-issue.

Still, I've been coming here for 13 years and folks have been pointing out how poorly Spyderco's painted clips hold up in use for at least that long. Given the amount of pride Spyderco takes in their products, how open they are to customer input, the fact that Sal is the one who came up with the idea of clips for pocket knives, and the observation that better ways of darkening a clip do exist, I have to say that I find it odd they still paint any of them.

Of course, the other side of me has to wonder what got scratched up from contact with the OP's clip. Those scratches in the steel didn't make themselves.

1000 grit sand paper will clean that up. The cool part is the spyder retains the black paint.

Thanks guys. Yeah I don't mind it I just wanted to make sure it wasn't like a defect because over the past five months it's been carried four days a week so not a ton of carrying

My Delica clip is scuffed as well from very little carry. Painted clips stink.

I'm with Deacon, why in the world Spyderco continues to paint any of their clips is beyond me.

its been my experience that these black painted ones, the finish will not last long at all! and only the the ones that are coming from taichung seem to last forever!i think because of there blued oxide finish that seems to go forever.

Guess I am the oddball, I like the way they wear. If I had a choice all my Spyderco knives would have black clips.

Over time I get some wear around the outer edges, but overall my clips live a pretty charmed, scratch free life :D

My clip on my Delica 4 spyderco edge has almost all the paint gone , I like it ! It shows use which happens everyday.

This clip has seen ten days of carry from brand new , it is already wearing off on the edges .

I always strip painted clips with paint stripper. I just get the $5 can of spray stripper at Home Depot and use that. Sit the clip on some news paper and spray both sides. You'll have to flip it to do that. I just use my fingers and then wash my hands. 15 minutes later, wipe off the paint with a paper towel. Shazaaaam....dull grey clip. Perfect.

My favorite clips are black clips that are DLC coated, Cerakoted, or Parkerized.
