Looking for non-metallic replacement clips for a variety of folders, both for weight, and to save wear and tear on my car's paintjob (and other objects in my environment).
Thanks

You might think about getting a can of that liquid rubber from the hardware store... the stuff you dip tools into, like when you want to put new handles on your pliers. Remove your clip, give it a dip, then slip
it back on, and see if you don't chip
the paint on your car anymore.

You may consider having a custom clip made with a screw on scale of a softer material.

I've used Plasti-Dip for lots of applications. It's works for lots of things. It doesn't work on pocket clips. It comes off too easily. I've also tried shrink tubing. It doesn't work either.

Sorry. No suggests here.

Take a look at some traditional knives. :D

Carry IWB or in a neck knife style setup.

The problem with using other materials for the clips is it makes an inherently weaker clip. You might want to look at a knife with a molded clip like a FRN Dragonfly (old style).

I considered IWB, and that may be how I go. I have an old Dragonfly (I carry that at work, and sometimes off duty too, great knife BTW), but I just pocket carry the dragonfly. The molded clip is pretty weak, and I wouldn't trust it.

I was thinking fiberglass, or CF. Maybe I'll tinker with making my own.

With fiberglass and CF I'd still be worried about scratches on the paint and fragility of the clip itself. Have you tried wire clips like on the new D-fly and Sage? I haven't had problems with those bending, and they are rounded at the tip, less chance for scratching I'd think.

I was thinking about that, or "dehorning" and skeletonizing the factory clip, and refinishing it.
