Is there a chace on the reversable clip Zytel clipits that the area around where the pocket clip clips down, the volcano pattern could be smoothed out maybe about a one-half inch oval or something on each side? That would still allow the clip to grab solidly, but may reduce wear and tear on the pockets. Also, there would still be plenty of checkering on both sides of the handle for sure grip.

As it is now, the clip grabs solidly, but against the checkered Zytel is like rubbing the pocket material with rough sandpaper each time the knife is clipped on or off.

Anyway, just a thought.

That sounds like a great idea. Maybe a round flat area with a low-profile logo, like the one molded into the scales on the lightweight Natives.

Couldn't ya just sand that area smooth?? Or maybe put a piece of tape there?? Just an idea.

And ruin the lines of our beautiful Spydies? I'd rather they come "factory de-burred."

Jim - thanx for the input. The question has come up occassionaly. I'll bring it up in R & D.

Personally, I bent the clip out slightly to reduce tension. It makes the knife less secure, but easier to access.

Thanks for the replies.

Sal:
If the contact point is smoothed or as Frank mentioned above turned into a flat logo with the knife's name, then the clips can be factory adjusted to bend down further, as the flat area will lie lower than the "volcanos". In fact, I was thinking that may not only decrease friction, but also might make the clip's grip more solid.

Then again, I'm just speculatin'....

This is standard Dremel tool procedure for me on new Delicas and Enduras. Reduce the surface area of the Volcano grip under the clip, then smooth down sharp edges on inside of the handle.

Sanding it yourself is an easy fix. Not much, just enough to take the bite out of the volcano pattern.

Keep in mind that some folks want and need an aggressive pattern to help in retention in the pocket. I'll be wanting it this weekend when I go canoeing, and not wanting it next week when I'm in the office. That's why I have several Spydies. Some get modified, others don't.

Well I guess if you didn't want to grind it you could put a little piece of electrical tape, or black duct tape.

Or you could coat that portion of the handle with clear polyurethane to make it slick.
