I recently purchased the CRKT KFF(very nice for price) and while practicing my draw the clip always seems to stick to my pocket.Ive tried different style of pants/shorts and it still sticks.Just need a little advice from some of you very knowledgable bladesmen.
thanks

I had the same problem. I found that the clip was, how shall I say this....over-bent towards the knife, resulting in a very tight fit into the pocket. My remedy was to pull up on the clip until it barely touched the handle scale. This worked wonders when it came to quick drawing the knife from the pocket and aided in ease of placing it back into the pocket without alot of friction. Hope this helps.

BTW...Does anybody else have a problem with the tops of your pockets wearing faster because of constant in/out of your knife from your pocket?

My early Microtechs have clips so tight that ALL of my favorite jeans have the piping worn off on the top of the right front pocket. I wear blue jeans for casual purposes only, so the damage means nothing, and don't worry about losing the knife. On my black jeans, which are the usual office attire, I carry a smaller knife, and so far the wear has been minimal.--OKG

OKG, I think the piping being ripped on the top of the pocket is not because of the clip, but because of the thumb stud (on my SOCOM anyway...). In pants where the stud rides below the top of the pocket, when I draw that SOCOM, the stud catches on the pants. The anodized handles are not very rough and it shouldn't mess up the jeans, so I came to the conclusion that it must have been the stud. My Benchmades don't rip up my pants, probably not because of the looser clips, but more because of a smoother thumbstud that won't snag my clothing. My BM-910BT Stryker had the checkering on the stud still mess with my pants a little though. Just got to be careful and tilt the knife a little as you draw so the thumb apparatus doesn't snag. I'm thinking that rough patterned G-10 might contribute to wearing of the pockets, but anodized aluminum shouldn't...

To Chang: You might be right. Winter arrived here in Wisconsin, and I switched over to a pair of new 'boot cut' jeans. My SOCOM Tanto has never been carried in this pair. I have been carrying my new LCC, which has the clip at the end of the handle, or 'tip up.' It seems to slip out easier. I figured that they finally got the clip spring geometry worked out, and that's why there were relieved areas in the clip. Of course, as a former motorcycle club member, a bit of tattered piping on some 'really stressed' jeans is about as serious as mild halitosis; my Edge-Pro 220 grit water stone is a bit 'dished,' and must be straightened. Now, THERE'S a problem...--OKG

Here may be an overlooked "problem". Perhaps it isn' t necessarily the clip being too tight, but rather there is not enough traction of the fingers to steady the clip during the draw. Try some friction tape applied to the clip and possibly some on the inside surface where the thumb engages the scale around the pivot pin area. This will allow for a more secure grip without neccessarily needing to pinch the clip/ scale tighter. The KFF is a big folder and you may not want the clip too loose for fear of possibly losing it under adverse conditions. Remster, surprised you missed this.

If however, this was not the answer, then perhaps you may want to remove the clip from the scale and smooth/ high polish out the contact area underneath where it contacts the scale.

Did it work?

Taking the pocket-clip off of your CRKT Kasper, and polishing the inside of the pocket-clip (to a very high [slick] polish) sounds like a great idea to me.

.

And if you decide to "bend" the pocket-clip, be advised to remove said clip from the knife, PRIOR to any "bending" in order to avoid damage.

Does anyone else find benchmade clips come too weak? My axis clip is lifted from the scale by half a mm, and I don't have the bit to take it off and bend it in.

Nakano,

I'm surprised also, especially after seeing your KFF!!! I must have been dozing off. I used the sa...mm....e.t...e..c..h.ZZZZZzzz,ZZZZzzzz,zzzzzzz

The problem I had with my CRKT KFF was not the clip catching, it was the top edge of the little thumb stud that activates the LAWK (sp?).

Once I figured out what it was that catching I but a small stone on my Dremel tool and cot down the top edge of the stud, until it was below the level of the handle scale.

This solved the problem completely for me.
