"Cloaked" pocket clips

I've added two more wire clip spydercos to my collection recently and am once again appreciating them...but I was struck with an idea.

What if we did some sort of non reflective jean (blue and white) pattern color pattern on them?

Could disappear.

Maybe I'll make one.

Sounds good. I am always looking for clips that allow me to carry my knives without broadcasting it to the world.

I'm envisioning something in splash....just drops of thick blue, sky blue and white paint.....spatter...

Sure, khaki could be done also...would be easier...but...uglier...

I'll see how much it cost to order another clip for my para and make one. Actually, para clips rock too much for that....maybe for the minigrip?

there's always the option to keep your shirt untucked. but for the other occasions that is a pretty good idea.

If you always wear black pants you can cover the clip with black Duck tape.

You could do that anyway.
No one would think you were carrying a knife, they would just think you were frugal regarding your wardrobe!

Now I know this is a stupid idea, and it is just spur of the moment so don't go crazy on me here, but, has anybody thought about removing the clip and putting velcro on the knife and the mating piece of velcro on the inside of the pocket in an appropriate location? If you get the industrial stuff and use a 1.5" or better piece, the attachment should be extremely secure yet readily disolved upon purposeful deployment of the knife. Okay......everybody can get back up off the floor now that you fell off your chairs laughing lol.

I wear slacks that have a smaller pocket sewn into the right front pocket, it's perfect for knife carry! Nobody can see the knife and it's easy to get to it fast.

I've done the same modification to all my pants now.

Hmm...maybe cut a piece of denim to match the shape of the clip, then glue it to the clip somehow?

Actually it's not a bad concept. However have you worked with industrial strength velcro? I use it all the time in costumes where you have to do exactly the same thing. Hold a solid piece of...something onto fabric. Trouble is the stuff is viciously strong. If it mates solidly it don't want to let go, extremely secure is right. Quick deployment of the knife would take a chunk of your pants with you. Also to free the knife you'd have to peel it straight off, a slow noisy process requiring both hands, one to hold the fabric and the other to peel, you really can't yank, oh yeah you'd also be cursing the entire time. If you want to draw it sideways as if getting it out of a pocket, forget it.

What about stripping the core out of 550 para cord and sliding it over the clip. Then stretch it tight and melt the ends tight around the ends right before the point they enter the handle. Super glue at the tips would solidify it also. 550 cord comes in all sorts of colors and is cloth so it might blend in with your clothing. I cover the ball chain on my neck knives with 550 also. I have used automotive shrink tube to cover shiny clips in the past. That works well also.

STR does a great job. Makes custom low rider clips and can do it in "blue jean blue". A super gentleman and fast turnaround. Spyderco, who makes great folders, seems to ignore this customer desire for a low profile carry with the exception of the wire clips..

It's a change pocket. I have one in all my good pants.

They can come out real shiny if you etch the titanium first. I've found most people prefer the subdued look or flat finish look vs the bright shiny look though. At least 90% of my customers that want an anodized one ask me for a non reflective finish. Some lately want a camo type finish which I'm working on.

Most of the time I bead blast the clip and do nothing else except anodize it right away after the blast and when anodized it turns out flat and pretty much as non reflective as you could ask for doing it this way. If you use the multi etch, clean it with windex and then anodize it suddenly is so bright it almost makes you squint. Its all in what people want I guess.

One other trick I've seen from "city dwellers" is this. They have a small slit cut into their pants right up high under the top seam of their carry pocket so that when they slide the knife on their pocket the clip goes inside the pant leg effectively hiding the knife about as well as you can ask for. Some I've had my wife do are sewn so they won't grow out with every wash. If you know someone that stitches you can have them embroider the slit like a button hole for you pocket clip.

I wear black jeans a lot and my Benchmade 707 has a black clip, which makes for a nice, subtle carry. Unfortunately, the black is wearing off in spots. They have those plastic facades you can snap over your cell phone to change its color -- it'd be cool to have something similar for knife clips. Get a six pack with black, khaki, blue denim, gray, navy and olive green!

Those are the coolest pants ever aren't they. I bought a couple pairs of khakis for work a couple of years ago and they had that little pocket. It's the greatest thing ever.
