Close my Laguiole knife

Hi,
Today I received a laguiole knife from my wife today for Christmas. I did some research on it and I think it is a knock-off.
It has France carved in the blade on one side and 12c27 sandvik on the other. The word laguiole is stamped on the blade, not embossed. It also doesn't have the shepherds cross. It has the fly and carving on the spine. There is also no brass at the end of the knife. My main problem is that it came in the opened position and I can't close it. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Pieman:confused::o

I'm no expert on the Laguiole, but 12C27 sounds right for the good ones, and a strange steel for a knock-off. Check out that link to Cutlery To Go -- they have excellent pictures and a great variety of them and you might get further information by e-mailing them, too.

I do have a French knife similar to the laguiole, and it has a very stiff slipjoint. Be careful when you do get to close it because it will snap shut very hard and quickly.

(That's a bee not a fly. :))

Hello,
I got the same knife as a Christmas present. Had same trouble closing it. But, I solved problem by just forcing it closed. It is very hard to close. be careful
good luck

Hi Pieman, can tell you thetallman is right.
They are very hard to close, because of the strong spring.
I have several one's, it the same to all of them.
Just give it a little force, believe me you won't break it.
